Practical information
 

The Ardèche is a class II river, meaning that it is without any major difficulties, but the following safety information should be respected so that your trip goes off without a hitch.

  • Participants should know how to swim and be over the age of seven.
  • Never remove your lifejacket, which must be attached to the canoe / kayak.
  • Respect the nature reserve
  • Bring your rubbish back to the start-off point.
  • Rough camping is banned. Camping is only authorised in the pay-to-stay bivouac areas (Gaud and Gournier).
  • Access to boats is banned after 6pm in the Ardèche Gorges Nature Reserve.
  • The following are also prohibited: parking outside of the authorised areas between 8pm and 6am and sailing at night.

One-day descent
 
Bateaux du Pont offers two routes :
 
  • 24km : Chames (after Pont d’Arc, this route is recommended for beginners, participants with children and if the water level is low).
    Five - six hours of paddling plus any breaks.
  • 32km: Salavas (Pont d’Arc Valley).
    Six-seven hours of paddling plus any breaks.

For both these routes, you need to arrive at the base at 8.15am with departure from Saint-Martin d’Ardèche scheduled for 8.30 / 9.00am.
The routes end at Sauze (2km away from Saint-Martin) where a driver will wait for you from 4pm and will immediately take you back to your vehicle.

Bring :
 
  • A picnic
  • Drinks (at least 1.5l of water per person)
  • A bin bag
  • Cap, sun cream and closed water shoes.
  • Depending on the season, warm clothes and a change of clothes (cool mornings).
